Five Tray Worm Farm
Among the options available to composters looking for a worm farm is the 5 tray worm farm which gives you a house for the worms that will be able to turn over around a tray of compost every month.
The composting worms are placed in the bottom tray of the worm farm in a bedding of material such as coconut husks or other such material. The worms are then drawn upwards through the bin by placing food scraps in the higher trays. A five tray worm farm is capable of housing somewhere in the region of 10,000 to 12,000 worms. This number of worms will then go through between 5 to 8 pounds of food a day, allowing you to harvest a full try of castings per month.
Five tray worm farms give you a convenient method of harvesting the compost produced because as the worms eat out one tray, they migrate upwards to the next tray where there is an abundance of food. Harvesting compost is then simply a matter of removing the bottom tray. You can then move the trays down a level and put the now empty tray on the top of the bin, ready to be filled as the worms continue their way upwards.
A five tray worm farm will fit quite nicely and unobtrusively in the kitchen or in a protected part of the garden. The multi-tray worm farm doesn’t smell and won’t attract insects or other pests. Putting it in the kitchen will also mean that it will be a handy place to throw kitchen scraps as you are preparing meals.
